I have a hard time believing that Rumple is totally evil. I found his interaction with Prince Charming on the shores (after PC came out of the water from Maleficent’s castle) interesting. He was excited the task was complete, but he also friendly to PC, as he invited him to warm-up at the fire. And earlier, he confessed to PC that he was in love at one point. For Rumple, these were some moments of him letting down his guard and showing his human side, which after many years of being the Dark One, he still had.
