I have the strangest feeling that Baelfire has been in contact with Belle. No evidence, just a feeling.
It could be the huntsman that Belle has the scene with possibly in fairytale land. I’m sure I heard somewhere that the huntsman was going to reappear towards the end of the series though I could be wrong.
I just have the feeling that Rumpel is going to have to let go of Baelfire. He’s been fixated on finding his son for so long and it was a real kick in the teeth for him when he thought he had actually found him only to realize August was just pretending. I don’t think there will be a reunion between Rumpel and Bae but Rumpel will find out what became of Bae, perhaps he grew up and had a family. I just think that what Rumpel did with the curse all in the name of finding his son is a bit too big (he destroyed everyones lives) to reward him with his son. Bae would probably never forgive him for it anyway.
With Belle coming back into the picture, it’s going to be an interesting time for Rumpel. He believed her to be dead so her turning up alive is going to feel like a second chance to him. He is probably going to be extremely possessive and protective over her and, depending on Belle’s state of mind and how much she remembers, there are going to be a few issues to work out between them.
I can see Rumpel facing a choice. Does he choose Belle who is alive in front of him or does he risk it all and continue searching for Bae? A theme that is prominent with Rumpel is that of cowardice. Now, as a parent, does he continue looking for his child, destroying others lives in the process even though he may never see Bae again or does he come to terms with the fact that his son is gone because of his actions?
Rumpel doesn’t like to accept the blame for his actions, as demonstrated in Skin Deep and the farytale part of the Return. He likes to project the blame and guilt onto others and I think for him to have any chance of redemption he has to fully accept his own wrongdoing and admit to his mistakes. He kind of did that to August when he thought he was Bae in the Return but was just as quick to almost run him through with the dagger when he realised he wasn’t talking to Bae after all.
Rumpel’s got a lot of issues that he hides behind a mask of evil and magic. Belle and Baelfire saw beneath the mask which is why they are the only two who can save Rumpel from himself.
All magic comes with a price!
