Belle brings out the best in Rumple and he needs her for that. In Miller’s daughter, Rumple almost seemed like he was reverting back to his old ways when he manipulated Snow into using the candle. He doesn’t want anything to do with Henry (because Henry is the boy the seer spoke about) yet Rumple’s not afraid to play the “I’m Henry’s grandfather” card when it suits him.
It’s only when Rumple spoke to Belle and then Bae after that he wasn’t trying to be manipulative. He even asked Cora if she ever really loved him.
