I would love to have an episode where it flashed back to a very young Emma.
But yeah, what Gypsy said – she got her last name from the first family she was with until she was 3. I want to see what these people are like. Because how can you take care of a little girl for years and then just give her back because you had one of your own? I mean… did they not connect with her at all? They were there probably for her first steps, first words… how do you just give a kid away like that?
What if the adoptive parents saw the baby somehow weilding magic, maybe in her sleep or something. That’d be funny!
Unfortunately, foster parents can be super unremoved from the babies they take, especially when they take babies. I know families who only took babies for “short term” placements (i.e. from birth until they could find long-term foster homes or adoptive parents) but sometimes they ended up getting the kids for a year or two while the courts fought it out… they just always have that idea that the kid could go back… Sometimes it is just like a rotary line of babies in and out of your house, so that honestly must be one of the hardest jobs… And if you’re being raised by people who have that kind of a wall up (afraid to get attached in case you get taken away), I don’t imagine you’re going to be any different (hence, Emma).
SENDING the kid back is totally weird though, especially when she was that little (I don’t imagine as a three year old, she would have had the time to be hugely problematic, because most often, the “unruly” kids are that way as a result of years in the system). So yeah, I would like to know that story.
I also know people who have several of their OWN children (like 5+) who have fought through everything necessary to adopt a kid they got as a newborn and had for years who otherwise would have been sent back into the system or to their birth parents (I mean, after you’ve lived with one family for the first five years of your life, it is hurting the kid to take them away from that family at that age) – so it seems so bizarre that kids would get “sent back” just because someone had their own kid.
Anyways, that was a bit off topic, but still in the spirit of this discussion. I’m curious to see what Eddie and Adam do with this… I feel like they are already pushing tons of buttons with the “adoption” issue (i.e. these forums and the chatroom have gone bananas with it after some episodes), so why not bring the foster care system into it as well?
