slurpeez108, I agree that Henry is smart and suffered the effects of the curse probably more than anyone else but that doesn’t mean that he believes that ALL magic is bad. What about the fairies? Fairy dust? Portals? If he really didn’t want to use any magic, he wouldn’t accept Rumple’s gift. In the end, he is just a child and even though mature for his age, he’s still young and naive in his own way. He has his dreams of happy ending for his family and desperate people take desperate measures, especially if they are smart kids… Remember, it was Regina’s choice not to use magic, not Henry’s wish (and before you say anything – yes, he didn’t want him being kept in the house by magic or having friends MADE like him because of magic. The point of the whole thing wasn’t not to use magic at all but that magic cannot control feelings and it’s the real actions that do).

I never claimed that Henry believes all magic is bad. He has shown great enthusiasm whenever the Blue Fairy has talked about magic being in SB and the discovery of magical diamonds in the mines. I think he’s very curious about it. However, Henry knows the damaging effects of dark magic, so I believe he’d be against using dark magic, like the kind his mother and Mr. Gold use. He knows better than to make deals with Mr. Gold, as he said in season one to Emma not to trust Gold. The only reason he took the vial from Gold is because he has no better option at this point: his life is at risk every time he goes to sleep. Henry doesn’t want to use magic, and I think he firmly doesn’t want to turn bad like Regina. He’s read her backstory in his book. He knows where using dark magic can lead. He’s already been the victim of the sleeping curse and seen what the dark curse did to the people of SB.

As for Mr Gold – nah, no way this was because of Bae. If it was, he would’ve been kind to Henry before as well, not just in this particular moment (unless he found out about Neal??? 😈 ).

Again, I never claimed that Mr. Gold wants to help Henry because he thinks Neal is Baelfire. Mr. Gold has no real clue what happened to Bae except that he came to a land without magic. All I said is that Henry reminds Mr. Gold of his lost son, Baelfire, who was around Henry’s age when he went through the portal. Mr. Gold’s son paid the price for Rumpel’s use of dark magic, and Mr. Gold said in the season 1 finale that Henry shouldn’t have the pay the price for Regina’s use of dark magic. He actually cares about Henry.

If you listen to what he’s actually saying while giving the gift to Henry:

Once one can control something, one no longer need fearing

and that was while he was staring at REGINA. I believe he wanted to make a point that he knows of Regina weakness that is Henry and that he can control her because of it. He didn’t have to help the kid at all but he did because he wanted to show his superiority and power over Regina. There could’ve even been a sense of threat that if Regina was to do him wrong, he could take the necklace away/do something bad to Henry because the boy is now at his mercy.

I agree that Mr. Gold didn’t have to help Henry at all. However, he did. I don’t think this is just another power play with Regina. It’s clear that she’s irresponsible when it comes to using magic; she already caused Henry a lifetime of pain. Gold did direct the point about control to Regina. Yet, if his intention was just to get one up on Regina, he’d have made some high-stake deal with her in exchange for the locket (like another “please clause”). Regina already knows Rumpel conned her into enacting the dark curse for his own benefit. He doesn’t need to make the same point over again.

Another part of me thinks that he also did that because he knows there is someone in FTL (Cora?) that wants to come to the real world and perhaps Gold needs that person and Henry would help him do just that. He didn’t seem surprised with the nightmares which makes me believe this is a part of his plan.

Mr. Gold doesn’t yet know Cora is trying to get the SB. When he does find out, he’s going to try everything he can to keep her out. He’s the one who tricked Regina into getting rid of Cora through the looking glass in the first place. Mr. Gold hates Cora for keeping Regina (Cora is the miller’s daughter from the original Rumpel fairytale) No way would Rumpel want Cora in SB! The episode description for 2×8 reveals he teams up with Regina to thwart Cora's arrival in town.
