I’m afraid of that happening too. Personally, I never really minded that Emma fell prey to manipulation from time to time. It wasn’t her fault. You have all these powerful people who know the truth about the curse and how to use it to their advantage. So, the fact that Emma got tricked a few times is actually pretty realistic and understandable.
I just feel like her characterization was the most inconsistent thing of the entire first season. She has a few strong standout episodes and then a whole lot of idiocy and stuff that made zero sense in any universe. Take for example the let’s break into the mayor’s shed and SEE if there’s a shovel back there that’s broken. Okay, so they do that, they see that there is. Then Emma comes back with a warrant. There’s no way she could have gotten a warrant based on “Well I broke in already and saw it!” so her new information that did her no good legally means she apparently could have just gotten a warrant to begin with and didn’t.
However, with the case of Henry’s father, I do feel that the writers are going to draw the situation with some broad strokes of gray. So yes, Emma may end up looking less sympathetic than before. But who’s to say that Bae won’t either? My personal opinion on the mater is that Emma and Bae were probably both orphans and were extremely lonely and unstable. They probably both got into a ton trouble. So, when Emma told Mary Margaret that Henry’s father was “no hero,” we do have to to take into account that neither was Emma at the time. They both sound like lost children who got into trouble because they didn’t have anyone to take care of them.
For me, taking away someone’s kid is not a “gray area” though. He either was capable and worthy of raising Henry or he wasn’t at that point in time. I have no interest in hearing a whole lot “You took my kid away from me and never gave me a chance” type whining especially because of the Emma blacklash it might create especially since we already have that going on with her now having Henry away from Regina (and it’s not like there’s any question about how evil Regina is at present.) I don’t expect Henry’s father to be obviously/currently pure evil so it’ll be 10 times worse with him.
I think it’s better that in the past neither Emma or this guy would have been good parents to Henry decade ago and the issue be more if the guy’s changed enough to be in Henry’s life now rather than that he was a great guy all along and Emma just didn’t see it.
So, you just don’t want Emma looking bad with someone related to Rumpel? I don’t think the fact that Bae is related to Rumpel makes him evil. I’m not sure what you’re saying here. I apologize if I’m interpreting your quote incorrectly.
I don’t think Bae or Henry’s father or if they’re one in the same will be evil. But no I don’t want Emma to be the next character facing the ire of the fans of the character who “can do no wrong”.
