Wow, hjbau, I rarely disagree with you. I do think Rumple has some gift for future happenings, but I do not think he knows it all. Someone suggested to me that perhaps it was magic and that since all magic comes with a price, it costs him something to look into the future. I kind of like that idea. Anyway, I think it just happened to be Emma’s birthday when Henry showed up, I don’t think he knew. It was a part of the destiny of it all…but maybe he knew from the book she was to return on her 28th birthday. I just don’t think he knew the day he showed up it was her birthday. I just don’t think he planned that. But there was a domino effect of circumstances that led to him finding her on that day. MM gave Henry the book, he read it, he looked for his mom online, took MM’s credit card, got his answers, bought a bus ticket, got a cab, showed up at Emma’s. I don’t know, maybe he did know. Maybe the who’s your momma website had that info about her and he knew from the book he needed to move.
All that to say, I don’t think Mr. Gold had anything to do with it all, unless he gave MM the book. Henry tends to avoid Mr. Gold. He doesn’t trust him, and he doesn’t know who he is.
And just want to point out that Mr. Gold was the one who told Granny to kick Emma out of the motel. I do think Rumpel/ Mr. Gold plays with cause and effect a lot. Because he has power or resources, he causes things to head in a certain direction — like kicking Emma out of the hotel, but then he sees her move in with MM. He knows she is the one to break the curse, I think sometimes he just continues to test the destiny of it all and create a “cause” so to speak to see the effect. Like planting the key for MM to leave, but now he sees that Emma does have a persuasive power with her friend/mother. These incidents all give him clues to what is happening, and at this point only he and Henry know for sure who Emma is. If Regina doesn’t suspect she will real soon:)
So, that is what leads me to believe he doesn’t always see the future, but he already knows an outcome and plays with the “pieces” along the way to glean his information. But I think that knowing the outcome is the future he can find out, but perhaps finding that out costs him something. So, its kind a combination of views. Does any of that make sense? If not, just skip my post.
