I think it depends on how the doors works. If it can jump time and space it is possible that Mulan is from China around the time she lived. She may have ended up in their world and had to learn the way of the land on her own. (So apparently one of the doors is a reference to when Buddhism was reaching China and that was around the time Mulan lived.
Or she is from a land that is similar to China but a sort of “fairytale world” for Chinese mythology.
I love the inclusion of different languages though from the book that Belle was reading and what Philip wrote that seemed to asian inspired…unless that is me.
