Has Rumple really ever had to “pay” for any of the magic he’s done? For refusing to give it up, yes, he lost both Bae and Belle but for all the spells he’s cast or all the trouble (I’m going to say trouble because he can be a devious little imp) he’s caused, it doesn’t seem like he’s had to pay anything. He got what he wanted: to our world through his curse. It does follow that at some point he’s going to have to pay a price. And perhaps Regina saying that Henry shouldn’t have to pay the price for HER magic (and his reply of “no, you should but alas here we are…”) is actually a foreshadowing of Rumple having to pay for his magic.

We have heard all magic comes with a cost or price consistently enough in this series. But what has Rumple actually don for himself. The magic he has exacted has usually been for others at their request– Cinderella, Jiminey, Snow White, Belle & the Ogre Wars, Regina. He is actually more a “maker” of magic, not a “user” of magic, in the episodes we have seen so far. He used the fairy wand, but for Cinderella, he made a potion for Jiminey and Snow, He stopped the Ogre wars for others, he created the curse for Regina to use, as far as I have seen, he has not used magic for himself. Perhaps there is a rule like Jefferson stated about the hat when he said if two can go in then only two can come out, so perhaps the rule for the use of magic is that there is a cost — just like the genie said about granting 1000 wishes…

Rumple seems to exact a price/cost in most of his deals for the use of magic, but now that he has used magic for himself, well, the question definitely is “is there a cost that will be required of him?”

The writer in me says yes, stylistically, it would make sense if Gold never finds Bae. The scene in thr forest between August and Gold can’t be repeated; you can take an audience into that well only once, because the emotions are so deep and intense. For the real Bae to show up and for the writers to try to recreate those emotions in the audience, it would only be an echo. So deep down, I can agree with the Bae is gone theory. Gold got to have the forgiveness he needed ; we got the chance to experience that with him,

But the fangirl in me can’t handle a Bae loss. Not after Charlie and Jin and Sayid and Sun and Locke and Jack and…

I totally agree with this summation. That is why I think there will be a twist… some twist by the writers. I also believe that if Rumpel could create so detailed a curse that he designed it to come to the time and place where Bae is. So I have come to believe he is alive. I have to wonder if he didn’t end up kind of like Pnnochio and Emma in a foster care system. Perhaps they even met.

It is not hard for me to believe August and Bae have met, because I do not think there would be any other way (except maybe the BF) for August to be able to draw a picture of that knife. I keep wondering if he and Bae might have been in Phuket together.
