^Yeah, the producers have said numerous times that much of the story was planned early on. Of course, there are some inconsistencies (especially the first 2 episodes), but I highly doubt the producers only planed on having Robert around for one or two episodes. I think you’re getting your info confused with Belle. The producers said that they only planned on having Belle around for one or two episodes but then changed their minds when she got such a positive response from the fans.
Besides, it was just recently announced that Robert Carlyle dropped out of the running for the 11th Doctor for his role as Rumpel/Gold. So, I doubt he’d abandon a role like THAT to be on a show he would only have 2 scenes in.
