And as far as it being obvious that Bae’s the father, there hasn’t been any evidence on the show to suggest that he is. It was the producers and in particular Jennifer Morrison who kept saying things like “I know who the father is,” and “we may have already met the father in previous episodes.” Those comments sent fans into a frenzy and the only person who fit those descriptions was Baelfire.
The producers have an uncanny ability to ruin a surprise. I think Jane Espenson straight up admitted that August was Pinocchio in an interview two weeks before the episode actually aired. I know there was evidence already suggesting that he was, but she didn’t have to go and spoil it.
