Well, it had to be easy–he’s scared that he’ll lose his memories somehow, and he needed a way to find it again and protect himself. He probably figured that memory or not he’d find Belle somehow–he watched it happen with the Charmings, after all. So it made sense even if it did feel like Regina & co figured it all out awfully fast.
