What the heck was that purple smoke?
At the end of Once Upon a Time’s finale, the curse was broken and all the fairy-tale characters of Storybrooke ostensibly received their happily-ever-afters. But before the bluebirds could begin sewing dresses, the evil Rumplestiltskin (Robert Carlyle) used the potion that Emma (Jennifer Morrison) retrieved from the belly of Maleficent to cast a smoky purple haze over all of Storybrooke.

“The purple smoke is magic,” explains Morrison. “They’re bringing magic to reality, but does that mean Fairytale Land exists again? That we can go back and forth?” All the producers have told her is that “something exciting is going on. What’s interesting is that Emma is now going to know that Mary Margaret (Ginnifer Goodwin) and David (Josh Dallas) are her parents, Snow White and Prince Charming.”

What’s not going to happen, it seems, is everyone returning to their fairy-tale life. “That will be answered in Season 2,” says Morrison. “Breaking the curse may just be the beginning of the final battle.”

“I knew halfway through the season that breaking the curse was a possibility,” says Morrison. “It was getting harder and harder to keep Emma from believing.”
