I know that story. It’s one of the Stories featured in Women who Run with the Wolves. I was thinking during the last episode, though I knew it was highly unlikely, that it would have been so cool if the old powerful one Bae was seeking would be Baba Yaga. I still think it would be awesome to see her in FTL. 😀

I agree he is making progress. I thought the fact he didn’t just kill Kathryn was a sign of that. I think it’s because the Dark Magic that corrupted him doesn’t have the same hold on him in Storybrooke and his humanity has a better chance of taking control back.

Women Who Run with Wolves was a wonderful book! Saved my life back in the 1990s. I didn’t realize I was so hungry for a tv show that took the old fairy tales and put them center stage! I love it! I was hoping the witch in the Hansel and Gretl episode would be Baba Yaga, but they never really called her that–though she could have been. I’ll be she shows up at some point. She’s too big not to–and she’d give Regina a run for her money! And Rumple, too, for that matter.
And yes–I’m glad you pointed that out. Mr Gold IS Rumple, but in Storybrooke, the Dark One Curse doesn’t have the same hold on him, so he’s free to develop his own personality and talents. That’s nice to see, too. He’s much less flashy and flamboyant than Rumple, and that’s ok too. He’s finding his own way to handle problems. Some things he learned from his Rumple days; Some things come back from his Spindleshanks (Pre-curse Rumple)–Those LIGHT and Hopeful parts.
I’m so sad there are only 3 shows left to the season. What will I do the rest of the summer?
Oh, that book saved my life just a few years ago! I always turn back to it whenever I feel lost, you know?! Vasalisa is one of my favourite stories too. And I recently found out there’s a Grimm’s story very similar to Vasalisa, The Brave. It’s called Mother Holle (if you don’t know it yet, as myself had never heard of it, take a look here – http://goo.gl/CZYOF). It would be lovely to see something like that in OUAT!
And back to Mr. Gold/Rumple: I’ve never thought of how being far from his Dark One self could set him free to try and become a better man. Makes a lot of sense. I’m just not convinced of his intentions yet (as I explained a few posts ago, about he just wanting to find and apologizing to Bae or if he realised all the harm he’s caused, etc etc etc…). But as Vasalisa said, just 3 episodes to go, so I guess we’ll be getting more Gold and then, we’ll be left with our thoughts and questions and hopes and no stories for some time (oh god, who invented the concept of seasons? whyyy?).
