Ladies, I think we’ve just cracked the code to season 2. 😀
I think we have too. 😉 I can’t wait to see how Rumpel handles all of this. There will definitely be tons of drama, but I’ve never actually worried about the long term condition of Rumpel’s relationship with Belle. This show is obsessed with the idea of true love and happy endings, so Belle and Rumpel will get their happy ending eventually.
Someone (I forgot who, sorry) made an interesting point about how to solve the problem of Rumpelstiltskin and his lust for power. They basically argued that Rumpel must have his happy ending because he needs his own personal curse to be broken. The heroes will never be able to out-smart him or over-power him because he is the Dark One. Killing Rumpel is out of the question because all that would do is just create another Dark One. The only safe solution is for Rumpel to be cured by true love’s kiss. Belle’s kiss would destroy the Dark One’s powers once and for all, instead of just passing it down to another person.
Rumpel will always be more power than the heroes because they are basically playing by his rules. Everything the heroes have done has ended up benefiting Rumpel, either directly or indirectly. They’re damned if they, damned if they don’t. The only real solution would be for the powers of the Dark One to be vanquished in its entirety. And since killing Rumpel is out of the question, the only other option is true love. So, that very conundrum implies that Rumpel must have a happy ending.
I completely agree. The show keeps reminding us that true love is the most powerful magic in the world. It can break any curse. So, the natural solution to Rumpel’s madness would be true love. From either his son Baelfire or from Belle. Killing him would only sire a new Dark One, so true love has to be his cure.
