Naya Naya, so many questions which I have chased around in my head. I shall start with the ones that are listed.
1. What was Rumplestilskin’s reasoning for creating the Dark Curse? / 2. When was the Dark Curse created?/ 4. Why is Mr. Gold desperately seeking Emma Swan’s allegiance and friendship? / 8. How does Belle factor into the curse?
So many ideas, I love them, I love them. The image which my mind has put the pieces of the puzzle into goes something like thus: The nature of the curse seems to be that it is to make everyone forget (with the exception of a few) and perhaps that was its entire purpose. (And he wasn’t quite expecting to remember, following that idea however, he would likely have remembered everything all along.) Rumplestilskin created the curse to forget about Belle, himself, everything. Which is of course why he remembered, just like the mad hatter, the reason that he didn’t forget was because it would give him a happy ending and the curse was meant to keep that from happening. He could have taken the potion like he gave to Snow, however it would not let him forget the touch of the curse, it would make him look weak in front of the queen, and I am not convinced that the potion was meant to make the person forget. It worked, but it very well could have been a side effect, since it had some other effects as well, like making her rather hateful and fully willing to kill the queen. While at the same time ensuring that all of the pieces were lined up to allow Snow and Charming to get back together as well as to give Rumplestilskin the final pieces of his ingredients (true love) Now just imagine had Rumplestilskin taken it and had that nice little addition to his personality. So instead he worked in a different way, which would also mean that he wouldn’t have the same shadow hanging above him. If no one remembered who they were, they wouldn’t remember who he was, or what he could do.
When he gave it to the queen would have likely been some time either shortly before or shortly after he was thrown into his prison. It seemed to hint that she had possession of it for a while before giving it to her friend to keep hold of. All the while Rumplestilskin was sliding farther off of his rocker in his cage, either that or biding his time and making people uncomfortable.
When the curse was activated however, he kept his memories. He was free of his prison, however he now had a human body, a limp which as Rumplestilskin (The Dark Lord) he did not have, and still all of the grief from losing his first wife, then his son, and then Belle. Also, I just have to wonder, does he have the same level of magic? Does he have any magic at all? (Just finished “The Stable Boy” so still debating on what to make of the end). If anyone could point out anywhere where he has used magic IRL, please get hold of me. Thus, with all of those fun little pieces of straw, he is befriending Emma in order to break the curse. In his mind Belle is lost forever, however, he can have his power back and now he is no longer in his cage.
(Although I have to admit, if it turns out that he did it ‘just to get out of his cage’ I am going to laugh)
7. When will Rumplestilskin be reunited with Belle?
I have no doubt that at some point they will be reunited. It will be some time though, and I can see Regina revealing her, without giving her to Gold, so that she is sure she has him on a lease. That is the one time that I will feel sorry for Regina. The moment Gold learns that Belle is alive, not matter how he learns, he will think of Regina telling him that she was dead and odds are, he will know that it was Regina who had her locked away. Yes, the one time I feel sorry for Regina, if Gold’s anger was ever felt before it will pale in comparison.
