I think if they were going to introduce us to Rumple’s ex-wife they would’ve done so in Desperate Souls. I think her absence from one of Rumple’s backstory episodes was to show that regardless of what really happened, she’s not in the picture anymore. The writers have already given us two versions about what went wrong and why she left:
-he deserted the army during wartime and his wife left him because of it
or
-she died
Based on the information we’ve already been given, the casting of a bored housewife ready to dump her family to join a band of thieves doesn’t fit with the character of Rumple’s ex-wife.
