The writers are 21st-century Romantics, with their belief in the moral wisdom of children, the power of nature, the corruption of government and the failure of social institutions. Emma’s experience with the foster system is downright Dickensian. I’m especially struck by the across-the-board corruption of the kings and queens in OUAT.
But I do have hope for the parents after Gold’s apology to faux-Bae. Change is possible and perhaps when Emma starts to believe in her son’s claims, change will come. I wonder if Gold now will become a catalyst in getting the other SB parents to listen to their children.
