I also really like this because it would keep NealFire Pan alive. And then we could combine the two theories:
Bae’s shadow was ripped away from him as he fell through the portal. The shadow is the magical part of Bae, let’s say. It became it’s own mischievous entity. It was captured by Hook but is constantly trying to reattach itself to Bae.
