IMO …Peter could be menacing and still a child especially if he has powerful magic of some kind. An example of this would be young voldy in the deathly hallows movie. I do agree that child actors are risky. Also I’m thinking that we won’t stay in NL long since Jared will grow a lot this year … And no one grows up in NL. Maybe just this season.?
That’s true. Hero Fiennes-Tiffin, who played 11 year-old Voldemort, was pretty creepy on Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, but here’s the catch: he never took on adults face to face as an equal. Not even Harry did that in first few books; he showed great bravery in the face of danger, that’s true, but he was very obviously no match for Voldemort back then. Rowling always brought a plot device in Harry’s confrontations with Voldemort that allowed Harry to defeat him without making too much of a mockery out of the villain:
– Lily’s love protection in book 1;
– Fawkes, Gryffindor’s sword and the Basilisk Tooth on Riddle’s Diary in book 2;
– Priori Incantatem from Harry and Voldemort’s twin wands in book 4;
– Dumbledore in book 5.
Only in book 7 was Harry portrayed as someone capable enough to take on Voldemort as an equal, and even then yet another plot device was invented to avoid Harry having to resort to the killing curse to end Voldemort.
More to the point, Harry Potter and Peter Pan (in his traditional portrayals) are heroes; we’re meant to see Voldemort and Captain Hook as monsters for even considering killing young boys. In ONCE, Peter will play the role of the VILLAIN; having bastions of goodness like Charming or Snow attack a pre-teen would give the wrong vibe to the audience, tarnishing their characters.
