I think there’s always been that hidden edge to the character of Peter Pan, as others have said, that dark side of childhood. We sometimes glamorize how kids are, as all sweet and innocent and forget that we often do call bad behavior “childish” or “immature”.

A darker Pan would make for a nice contrast to Henry. We’ve already been introduced to this kid who is full of hope and belief that the good guys always win. So I could see K&H wanting to play up the complete opposite of that by magnifying Pan’s darker traits. Pan and Henry facing off could get quite interesting.

If they do make Peter permanently stuck and unable to grow up because of magic, I could see how he might eventually come to want to rid the world of magic to be free of his curse. If they bring in some of the themes in Tuck Everlasting (a novel, which Disney turned into a movie), it could soften his background story, but still leave him as dangerous. Basically focus on the idea that the magic took him out of the natural order of life and he wants to return to it.

Yes, this is one of the ideas that I’ve been kicking around in my head, that he needs something from Henry that will enable him to change, so that he can actually, finally grow up.

Wait, do you mean the island itself rather than the world? While there’s nothing to suggest Hook went back and forth from FL to NL, he could have had crew explore the island to bring back information. Hook knew the Lost Ones were bad news, and knew about the mermaids. It sounded like they’d been in NL for at least a few weeks, long enough to learn some stuff about the place.

Though putting a time on anything in NL is fraught with confusion, my guess would be around about a month. Felix made a comment about them being new to the land, so they can’t have been there that long, but as you say, still long enough to know some stuff. I wonder if Hook had a crewmember fall overboard and they all watched on as some mermaids dragged him down to his death.

ETA: Actually, wasn’t another of Hook’s crew listed in a cast list for the finale (or was it the 2nd last ep)? Maybe there was a scene where he was in the water and got dragged down, but it got cut? Might explain why the bit about Hook telling Bae about mermaids while they were driving the boat was also cut?
