Mills = A name originally given to one who worked in a mill (occupational) or lived near a mill (descriptive). Possibly from the Gaelic Milidh, meaning soldier. or Latin. Also could have originated from the Greek word for apple: milo.

I love that Mills can refer to both the miller’s daughter story AND the apple thing. Very clever.

Y’all know I’m taking this as a Pinocchio shoutout, right? 😉

Regarding the Liza debate:

Granny: For another thing, Liza, you dress like a drag queen during fleet week.
Ruby: And you dress like Norman Bates when he dresses like Norman Bates’ mother.

They were just having jabs at each other’s style, each refering to the other as a man dressed as a woman. Liza Minnelli is a gay icon, (and as hjbau said, Judy Garland was her mother. Judy was also a gay icon, one of the biggest. The term, “friend of Dorothy” for a gay man comes from her character in Wizard of Oz). Many a drag queen has glammed up to impersonate Liza Minnelli. Fleet week is when Navy ships dock and sailors go ashore to get some action. Basically, Granny was telling her she looks like something this forum’s inbuilt censor would bleep out if I actually typed the word. 😛 So when Granny hurled the drag queen jab, Ruby fired back in kind with the line about Norman Bates dressed as his mother in “Psycho”.
