I think he figures Charming is the perfect person to ask, remember when Snow had no memory of him when she took that potion and he found a way to win her back? The thing here that Rumple is trying to figure out is how through the curse to end all curses, through changing realms, and losing all memory of their past lives did Snow and Margaret still end up finding each other. I think he’s hoping that if they spend time together she’ll feel that spark for him again and they’ll be reunited.
