So, I really think the only way Rumple could become the same good man he used to be is 1) Tamara zapped him with his taser so that he lost his magic (but survived) 2) He went to live outside of SB where there is no magic or 3) Rumple and Belle return to the EF where TLK can break any curse.
Hmmm. But that’s so passive. I want him to be actor in his redemption story, not the object that something is done to in order to elicit a change. The second option seems a bit more active but I don’t think Rumple wants to stay in this land unless Belle and Bae stay too. Retuning to FTL seems more like a S4/S5 thing so in the meantime I’d like for him to try on his own, with the help of Bae and Belle.
I hear you, and I wish that, too. However, Rumple is plagued by a curse. He cannot willingly lay it aside or walk away from magic as Regina could. It’s like trying to wish away diabetes without taking insulin. Even when he was living in SB without magic (after Emma arrived), we saw Mr. Gold struggle with his own dark nature (e.g. when he tried to take Ashley’s baby or when he beat up Moe French). Without receiving a cure from TLK, the best Rumple could hope to achieve is to live without magic in say, Boston, NYC, or wherever, and just try to control his temper. But he wouldn’t really be “cured” Yet, as you said, he wouldn’t do that without Bae or Belle by his side, who are his support team. Rumple will forever be tempted by dark magic so long as he is the Dark One, and only a TLK could really cure him of that. So, his best hope is to return to the EF and kiss Belle (after she gets her memories back, which had better be Sunday).
