I think it’s endgame for one reason: emma’s face. I think this was what we needed as evidence she is not over him. He’s her true love and she didn’t just get over him and the way he skirted around it, he’s not either. I mean he called her his “friend” and he said “It’s complicated” There’s more to that story and I think she’s just a plot device to cause drama
