Look ultimately like Rumple says there is a choice just make the right one. He didn’t that’s why he tells everyone before they make deals with him that. He did not and is paying for it. It was his choice to not follow Bae. He was like Bae said a coward and still is, if he were not then he’d up front and help Emma to defeat Regina if that his goal.
