And back on topic, I’m not a fan of CaptainSwan. I’d rather see Emma with the guy she slept with, who was also her first love.

I’d prefer to see Emma with neither in the long term. If she were to give it a go with both of them, I’d have no objections, but Emma’s own issues of trust are a major obstacle in both relationships.

Neal- I don’t agree with the fact that, just because he was Emma’s first love and she had a child by him, that Emma has to end up with him. That’s not how it works in real life, and whereas Snow and Charming grew up in a would running on magic and true love, Emma didn’t. Fairytale endings and real world endings are two totally different things. Emma is a product of the real world and, whilst fairytales have women married and living happily ever after with the first guy they slept with, in reality many children end up with step parents because their biological parents’ relationship didn’t work out. Many people move on from their “first love” and find happiness with a new partner.

Neal abandoned Emma, yes it was so she could break the curse, but does that really matter? In Emma’s eyes, regardless of why he done it, Neal still abandoned her. After a childhood of abandonment and feeling unloved, the one person Emma loved and thought loved her in return abandoned her. Emma will never get over that, she may “forgive” him, she may give him a second chance, but anytime Neal is out late or isn’t back when he’d say he would be, Emma would immediately start thinking “he’s taking his time, is he coming back? Has he left me again?” Not forgetting that Henry is now a factor in Emma’s life. Emma is going to be more on edge with Neal’s whereabouts because she doesn’t want Neal to abandon Henry like he did her. Not saying that he would, but the thought is going to cross Emma’s mind.

Emma not being able to completely trust Neal is understandable, but it is also unfair on both Emma and Neal if they were to be in a relationship. Emma would alway wonder whether Neal would be coming back whenever he went out especially if he didn’t tell her he was going out, and Neal would feel frustrated that he’s under constant scrutiny because Emma doesn’t trust him. Even if he recognised it was his fault she was like that, it wouldn’t be healthy for the two of them.

Hook- Emma and Hook can relate but building a relationship on mutual negative experiences isn’t exactly healthy. Not to mention that Hook has flirted with Emma’s own mother, as well as every other female that crosses his path (except Belle who he’s violent towards). Hook is a womaniser and a pirate, he doesn’t like to be tied down for too long, he has a reputation from being Captain Hook in Peter Pan and Emma couldn’t trust him at the top of the beanstalk despite the fact that, at the time, Hook had been on Team Emma rather than Cora. Emma’s trust issues are always going to make her question what Hook is up to. Again it is unfair on both of them.

Hook also appears to have issues of his own. Milah, Emma, Snow, Cora and Regina are all mothers. Hook has either flirted with or attempted to flirt with all of them. Belle is the only woman on the show so far that Hook has encountered that he hasn’t flirted with but has been positively violent towards. Her affiliation with Rumple may have something to do with it, but Belle is also not a mother so may not hold any interest for Hook. Milah’s death haunts Hook, he’s spent over 300 years trying to avenge her, and it’s likely that her presence will haunt his relationship with Emma. Perhaps Hook is trying to find himself another Milah and he sees Emma exhibiting qualities that Milah possessed herself?

Henry- Henry is going to be the main factor in Emma’s future relationships. She’s not going to want to put him in a position where he could end up getting hurt. Can Emma trust Hook with Henry? Would she happily leave Henry in Hook’s care? What about Neal? Now that she’s a mother, Emma has to consider Henry in any life changing decision such as starting a new relationship. What she wants may not be best for Henry.
