Hi. For anybody who is interested, I have questions about Captain Hook.

Admittedly, I’m in the “CaptainSwan” brigade. I’ve been thinking hard about why, and I have come to conclusions some people may, or may not like.

* Loyalty
-Is Hook loyal to Milah, or is he loyal to his own anger and resentment over what was taken from him when Rumple killed Milah? Is he loyoal to his love, or is he loyal to his thirst for revenge; for revenge; for victory and the last word? What’s more powerful within him? His love for Milah, his openness to love for others, or only his self interest??

* Looks
-Ok, so Hook is eye-candy. He still would be no matter who it would be playing his part, but Colin O’Donoghue is good a good looking guy, so the girls go wild…but….is beauty only skin-deep?

*History
-Can he change his stripes and be an honest guy for Emma? Can he stop being a pirate, and walk a strait line like David? There’s definitely the potential for him to be that guy, but what part of him has the louder voice? The good part, or the bad part? This will mean no more revenge, and no more being a pirate (traditionally, pirates are theives and liars, but I’ve seen neither in Hook yet).

Then, there’s the biggest concern:
* Empathy
-Emma’s been through hell in her life. She needs a man who will not only love her, and fight for her, but someone who can identify with her. She needs someone who can empathize with her. Is Captain Hook capable of empathy? He has a code of honor, but that only comes back to himself, not because of his feelings for anybody else’s pain. I’m worried about whether he can identify with Emma’s, Henry’s, anyone else’s, or if he’d be too preoccupied with himself to react appropriately to the needs and feelings of others.

I guess my question is summed up with this: Is Captain Hook a bad guy? With potential, yes, but at the end of the day, a bad person?
