But that’s the beauty of sacrifice, it’s doing things with knowing that you won’t reap the benefits.

Since I mentioned Harry Potter I’ll allude to it again and mention that what makes Snape’s story so heart wrenching, memorable, and personally, one of my favorite sacrifices is because even in death he still didn’t get Lily. It was his love for her alone that was a good enough of a reason to sacrifice himself.

It’s not the message of “You did all this hard work and now you can’t enjoy it” that draws people to this stuff, it’s the power of hope, love and the willingness to give ones own life or goals for the greater good, and not for themselves, but for loved ones or complete strangers. It’s the strongest message of love that one can give, and personally, more meaningful to me then everyone getting what they want and living happily ever after. It’s the message that despite all of the hardships, heartache and hatred in our world, the most important thing in this world is to never give up and to always fight for good. To protect it, at all costs.

I’m not saying that I want the series to end on a grim or depressing note, but more of that I do hope that some characters end up redeeming themselves, or dying in order to protect the greater good, which this show heavily revolves around.
