I hope it’s OK to bump older threads.

I have had similar thoughts since the beginning. The new story elements introduced with the Giants also make me wonder what the Blue Fairy was talking about, with respect to magic beans that “got away” from the fairies.

Did the Giants suspect something, and stop trading with the fairies?

Worse yet, did the fairies collude with Jack and the “bad twin” Prince to attack the Giants’ realm? 😥

Also, medchen, your quote from Yeats in relation to the movie A.I. gave me shivers. That is one of my favorite movies. And if I recall from A.I., the Blue Fairy at the end of A.I. was an illusion, some kind of hologram made by the highly-advanced robots.
