I don’t think the book was damaged in any way. He retrieved it from Henry’s castle before the place was torn down. And when we saw him the first time with the book, he had to cut the lock for the case that was still protecting the book. The most it had was some dirt on it.

Even when Emma picked it up off the street, wasn’t it dry inside the case?
