I need A and E to tell me what they mean when they say “time is linear” because obviously things and people can move through time and space. We saw it with the apple and Rumple said as much in the Return when he’s talking to August (when he think he’s Bae).

I just want you to know, that ever since you left, ever since you crossed the barriers of time and space, in every waking moment

So what does it mean that time is linear but then they also say that there is no time traveling.
It could be that FTL is less developed by 1900 as our world is, therefore Bae doesn’t move in time so much as he goes to a more developed universe. (Fringe anyone? The parallel universe was more advanced in some areas)
