Per your request, I re-watched 1×19 with subtitles from my DVD today. Unfortunately, there weren’t any subtitles for that conversation between Mother Superior and August. The subtitle simply said “indistinct” instead of what was being said. 🙁 I tried really hard to listen with head-phones, but I couldn’t make out anything much better than you already did. I think August might have said. “I understand, but that’s the whole point. I can’t do anything about it with my body like this.” I think Mother Superior may have been persuading August to stick with the plan of getting Emma to believe, but he was so anxious from turning into wood, that he wanted to get Mr. Gold’s knife and use the magic asap.

Also, I never noticed the sign in front of the convent until now. I think it reads “Sisters of Saint Melissa.” As far as I know, there is no such saint in Catholicism, although there may have been a Melissa, queen of Serbia, who may have been canonized in the Eastern Orthodox Church. Anyway, I looked up the name Melissa though, and it does have a connection to Greek mythology, as she was a nymph who cared for the infant Zeus: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Melissa

I’m not sure what the official religion in FTL was, but it did seem to be polytheistic, as indicated by Baeflire in 1×19 when he said, “Gods no!” and by Maurice in 1×12 and by Granny in 1×16.

Thanks for looking 🙂
Interesting info – I never really saw the sign either lol 😉
