@Mia: If you go by the book version there is some validation to your theory in regards to Alice. In ‘Through the Looking Glass’ – the 9th chapter is entitled ‘Queen Alice’. Because, after dutifully playing the game set forth by the Red Queen, Alice literally tumbles into her crown. There’s even a song about it in the book, that goes like this – –
” I’ve a scepter in hand, I’ve a crown on my head.
Let the looking glass creatures, whatever they be,
come & dine with the Red Queen, the White Queen & Me.
. . . And welcome Queen Alice with thirty-times-three! “

By that logic, I’m inclined to side with your theory that Jefferson’s wife was in fact, Alice.
