Here’s the tweet where Jane mentioned Dracula, she was responding to a fan who was saying that Frankenstein was based on a real person, making him real himself:
Also, Dracula based on real person. Hook certainly drew from legends of real pirates. Alice in wonderland was Alice Lydell
Basically, she’s saying that many a ficticious character has their origin in a real person, but that doesn’t make them any less ficticious. I could see them having Dracula ruling that land, without having to specifically reference Vlad. Frankenstein could have even been inspired by him, this man whose body is technically dead, but he still lives by sustaining himself with blood transfusions. Would they go so far to say that Frankenstein created Dracula? As in, the prince who ruled their land died, (or at least came very close to death), and Dr Frankenstein, being a loyal subject, revived him with blood transfusions, and in doing so, created the vampire?
If they do intend to introduce Dracula, (assuming Jane’s tweet was a hint), I can’t imagine that they could create yet another world where he’d be a better fit, coz Frankenstein’s world looked like the perfect place for Dracula to live. If he’s gonna be anywhere, I’d expect him to be there, whether he’s the one who rules the land or not.
Phee, thanks for finding that tweet I was talking about in live chat last night. It’s a very important tweet. When she was responding to person, she responds about Hook, a character we’ve already seen. She responds about Wonderland, a world we’ve already seen. She responds about Dracula, a character we have NEVER seen. Why Dracula if the intent isn’t to eventually bring him in? Why not Mulan? Why not Lancelot? Both are based on legends that started with some sort of truth to them. But no, she mentions Dracula.
I’ve said many times before, that I believe his world is a fictional Transylvania. Adam Horowits, has stated, that anything real can be written as fictional. Thus, it doesn’t matter if Transylvania was a real place or not. In Victor’s world, it’s a black & white world, one in which black & white 1930’s monster horror movies held from.
Then there’s Dracula: The Prince of Darkness (1966 movie starring Christopher Lee). I’ve also said, many times before on this board, that Dracula was his prince. Many movies were made combining Dracula, Frankenstein and the Wolfman. Dracula always controlled the monster. He’d use his hypnotic eyes and would cast his magic on him. It’s just not a world of science; that’s Victor’s private little world, but it’s a world of magic (how else could Jefferson have travelled there).
I wouldn’t be surprised to find out Red’s family migrated to the Enchanted Forest from this world. They are, after all, werewolves. I’m sure we’re going to see monsters like the Mummy, Phantom of the Opera, Dr. Jekyl & Mr. Hyde, etc. Time to get on our Monster Game face’s
Keeper of Pandora's Box & The Yellow Brick Road.
