On the surface of it, it sorta comes across as one of those moments that many people interpret as the show being pro bio-family. But I think the actual point was that MM was all chill and calm, unlike Regina who was completely unsure and stressed out. Babies can pick up on other people’s emotions, and will respond instinctively, so he was calm with calm MM, and stressed with stressed Regina.
I do think that’s the overall reason for why Henry stopped crying with MM, but it’s not going to help those accusations hurled at A and E about being anti-adoption.
