Maybe that’s why PP needs Shadows: to protect NL from the Dark Curse?
My original theory is that the shadows are what sustain NL’s magic, prevent you from aging and once the Dark Curse hit, that magic was ripped away and everyone began to slowly age. In order to return NL to what it was, PP needs to sacrifice a heart, Henry’s heart.
