I never entered this thread but wanted to respond to a post without overtaking the Who’s filming Thread.
I think Belle would’ve fallen for pre-dark one Rumple. She loves him for who he is, not because of his power. Rumple does love Belle, they’re true love.
belle was brave, well off, adventurous. pre-dark Rumple was a snivelling coward who would not scarifice himself for anyone. I don’t think Belle would find that attractive. He was a very passive man who would rather wallow in self-pity and poverty than to try to move to a new town to make a fresh start. Why would Belle find that attractive? why would she give up a good life for a weak man who refused to help himself and his family in a healthy productive watt, instead of becoming the dark one? Belle would be just as exasperated as Milah but probably not as snappish.
Belle loves Rumple for who he is, not because of his power. A lot of pre-dark one Rumple’s actions are because of the trauma he suffered as a child because of his father. Rumple didn’t want to turn into his father. Belle and Rumple may not have ever met had Rumple not become the dark one because time line wise Rumple would’ve been long dead before Belle was even born.
But to say the Belle would not have found Rumple attractive because of who he was is a massive insult to Belle’s character. Yes she’s brave and adventurous, but her “well-off” life involved her being betrothed to a man she didn’t love and who she thought was superficial and someone she couldn’t give her heart too. Belle would’ve been stuck in a loveless marriage. Is that option really better than a pre-dark one Rumple. I don’t think so. Belle is a hopeless romantic.
