HOW RUMBELLE BEAT THE ODDS
In responding to another post, I found myself thinking about Rumbelle and how a million things had to go right in order for their story to make it on ONCE. Skin Deep was supposed to be a one-off; Belle was never supposed to be a part of Rumple’s storyline – unless way at the end (they kept her alive for a reason) IF at all. Even though the Beauty and the Beast get together in the stories/movie, ONCE was not going to keep them together, ONCE was not going to tell their story. They would have told Gold/Beast’s story, but not the B&B story (which makes me wonder why they decided to write Skin Deep and make him the Beast when it was going to be a one off). If Bobby and Emilie hadn’t had such incredible chemistry, if they only had decent or good chemistry, would we ever have seen Rumbelle again? If, then, had Emilie’s pilot been picked up, would we have seen them again? Of course, when Jane and A/E were writing/editing the script, the story did change, so clearly it was really True Love – and we saw that Rumple wanted Belle back as soon as he let her go. Point is, there was a very good chance that we never would have seen them together and hence if they had ended up together anyway, would it have truly been a Beauty and the Beast storyline without us having seen how Belle changed him/transformed his life? Not really..Gold would presumably have changed in some way without her..which would make their story rather, well, uninteresting It would have really been just an ordinary romance, a FT in name only
