when Emma says “we need to talk”. Because that phrase… as old as the world. Such a stereotype but so true. Communication is a huge part in true love. But then experience, I may be wrong. It just felt… Wrong once again when Hook said that. I don’t know, it just really put me off.
I really resented Hook in that scene. He was still acting like a petulant child. His whole demeanor post 307 is “how could you not notice how brave and handsome I was!? Why aren’t you praising me?! Praise me!” and it’s really repugnant to me. To me it demonstrates that he isn’t there for Henry, he doesn’t want Emma to notice how much he cares about her son and saving Henry, but he wants Emma to notice how special he is, how handsome and brave and alluring.
I mean, how does he know what Emma wants to talk about? What if she was coming to him to say, “omg! I think I’ve figured out a way to save Henry” and then is put off by his response. Or what if she was coming to say, “I’m totally in love with you!”
It shows that Hook’s romantic attitude toward Emma is only there when she’s fawning over him. “I rather fancy you when you aren’t yelling at me.” The minute she becomes tough as nails Emma, or walls up Emma, or “my son is the most important thing in my life” Emma, Hook doesn’t respond well.
