Both he and Emma seem to have aspects of their photos that make them look lost (his shoes, her slightly raggy shirt) and I think it adds to their characters that in a lot of ways, even though they’re both adults now and obviously can function that way in most circumstances, deep inside they’re both still those lost children trying to find a family and somewhere to belong.
