Hook turned the ship around because of Bae. There was a reason the camera showed Hook looking at the directions he had carved on to the JR with Bae all those years ago. I think Hook feels unbelievably guilty over what happened to Bae both then and now. The deleted scenes that made it on to the DVD are canon so Hook knows all about Tamara and her less than loving relationship with Nealfire. Saving Henry isn’t just for Emma to Hook, it’s about righting the wrong choices he made with Neal, mainly choosing his revenge over someone he wanted to raise as his son. I really need me some CaptainFire interaction post haste! I’m not saying that Hook’s relationship with Neal is strong enough to hinder him trying to make a play for Emma but I think it will weigh on him.
Yes, I completely agree with your assessment of Captain Hook’s motivations in 2×22! Not only does Hook regret what happened to Baelfire as a child, but Hook certainly cares about what happened to Baelfire as an adult. While Hook may think Emma is fair game now that he believes Neal is dead, I think that will change when Neal reappears in S3. If Hook is really becoming a changed man (as so many CS fans promote) then Hook would hopefully stand aside from Emma out of genuine affection for Bae. In fact, Hook may have even felt guilty about taking Milha away from little Bae and destroying his family so much so that he offered to form a new family with 14-year-old Bae. I doubt that Captian Hook would want to again destroy Bae’s chance of a family with Emma and Henry after Hook basically helped destroy Bae’s family as a child.
