I think I feel a bit differently than most people about the secret Emma revealed to Neal. While I understand what she was saying to him given what we know because we have seen her history with Hook, the kiss, heard Hook’s secret and seen her reaction to it – Neal did know ANY of that information.

Ah, but you see, if he was listening, really listening to her, he would have known. Killian would have gotten it.

I see SF shippers talking ALL the time about how Neal and Emma supposedly “understand” one another. But they don’t, and nothing illustrates that more than Neal’s response to Emma’s speech. Emma and Killian, on the other hand, do, which you pointed out, and it has also been stated about 50 times by the writers and the actors that Emma and Killian are kindred spirits and thus understand one another effortlessly.

I don’t think Neal intends to maliciously ignore her feelings, but the fact that he doesn’t LISTEN to what she’s saying makes it… well… worse to me in a way. Again, showing that they are in no way an example of True Love.

Speaking of Emma’s speech, here’s a meta breaking it down:

So how would Hook break the news of Neal’s disappearance to Emma? How would he behave? What would he do?

I would imagine that Killian would do his level best not to hurt her unnecessarily, as he stated in 3×06. Maybe he would go out and try to ascertain what happened to Neal before telling Emma? I haven’t the best imagination, sorry!
