I think overtime they’ll learn each other’s stories. We know that Emma knows at least a little bit about the events in Good Form since Charming told her about Hook’s brother Liam and that they were here once and Pan tricked him and that he died from the Dreamshade so she has some vague idea that that might be a big part of why he is so closed off to most people.
She wouldn’t know the details but it’s reminiscent of their scenes on the beanstalk. Hints at her being afraid to trust because of a past love, hints at him wanting revenge for more than just the cutting off of his hand (Emma noticed the tattoo and he reacted differently to it, something that was brought up again when his secret was revealed since she alone knew how much Milah meant to him) etc etc. They know bits and pieces, enough to read each other pretty well most of the time, but we haven’t had any indication that they’ve actually verbally connected the dots yet.
It’s why some of the “reveals” between them of their history I don’t expect to be such big things. It’s mostly stuff that they’ll have put together in their minds a bit before that, and it’ll just be confirmation that those pieces fit where they imagined they did. Much like Hook realizing who it was that hurt Emma so long ago and shut her off from letting herself love and trust when he learned who Henry’s dad is. Emma has had many hints about Milah and when she learns who she was (I’m assuming she’ll actually learn this at some point, it has to be brought up eventually and I’m kinda annoyed that Rumple and Bae haven’t talked about it once, especially when Neal was still furious with him), that it’ll just be one of those moments where it takes her a second to compute it like it does with all the family tree branches she wasn’t aware of, and then it’ll be a dawning moment of “of course” because his prior comments will make a heck of a lot more sense now (like him saying that Bae got his drawing skills from his mother).
I’d love for Hook to tell her more about his Navy days and I bet we’ll get some of that eventually. I think it’ll come from the CaptainCharming bond though because he’ll finally have good leaders to serve and can bring that stuff up about how much it means to him to be serving someone honorable.
I’ve always loved that with some characters we hear about the “right” thing to do and then we have people like Charming and Hook that talk about the “honorable” thing to do. Quite often these things are rather interchangeable but I love that both Charming and Hook use those terms. I look forward to future rewatches when I can be on the lookout for that specific stuff but it always strikes me that both men use that particular phrasing. Love it!
As for today’s other news, yay for Rapunzel! Doesn’t fit the look I can dress up like which is what I was hoping (bummer) and she’s younger so probably no Flynn either, but I love that we’re actually getting to see her! (I was afraid we wouldn’t because it was so recent that they might stay away from it). No idea who’s story she connects with yet though. Hmm.
Some people in the fandom apparently think that CSers think Emma and Killian actually are Rapunzel and Flynn. Um, huh? No no no no no. We enjoy the many many many parallels to the Tangled version of Rapunzel but Emma is just Emma! We’ve always known that! (I thought the fandom understood that by now too but apparently not?) but there are still many nods to THAT version of the story that we can love all we want to! The reason Emma fits in so well in the story is because she embodies enough Fairy Tale traits from VARIOUS stories that she fits into that universe without much trouble. She’s still very much raised in our world and struggles to find her place within the fairy tale community she finds herself in, but there are aspects of her story that connect to ALL of the others (which is helpful since in order to SEE their stories, there has to be something that connects them back to Emma or the other core characters of the show, otherwise what’s the point?)
I love that we get nods from so many things that the creators love for sure though. Star Wars and Princess Bride are huge things for them that we’re likely not to actually see any version of so it’s great to know that those influences are in there, just like Tangled and anything else that reminds us of our couple, but at the end of the day Emma and Killian are their OWN love story and it’s beautiful!
As to Hook beating Charming’s dedication…in all fairness he has lived a bit longer! 😉 But it’s what I love about how perfect these two are and how similar to each other that they are, albeit different too. It harkens back to even more stuff we saw in the pilot about how Charming is very much about “What’s 28 years when you have eternal love?” and not being worried about it. Similarly Hook has spent centuries trying to avenge the death of the woman he loved. They get it. It doesn’t matter how much time it takes, as annoying as long breaks are, as long as you mean it with your whole heart and will do whatever it takes to get back to each other.

Absolute perfection on so many levels. I realize many don’t want to hold to the things in the pilot because that was before it was picked up and there’s the issue with the apple reasoning etc, but there are SOME things that they did set up that early on that they still go back to. One of the things I love that people pointed out on tumblr lately (besides the knight and pirate/navy dolls protecting the crib, or the fact that everywhere Emma goes, there are ships and ship’s wheels and water etc etc), that shortly after we meet  Emma Swan, she makes a wish not to be alone and then Henry shows up. (AKA True Love #1 – mother/son relationship).
Her whole life has been manipulated and quite possibly even more than we already know. She’s big on choices and making things happen and not relying on “fairy godmothers” to fix things, but she still makes a wish. So now in Season 3, when things start realllly heading toward her finding romance and having to make a choice at some point, we have one option for her that is literally telling her “As you wish” and doing whatever he can to make her happy, even when it runs a huge chance of him facing rejection and getting his heart shattered after finally putting it back together.
Also fun to note that someone did a gifset of on tumblr (I feel like it was brought over here already but can’t remember now!) that Hook is in complete control of his ship and is firm about how he’s the one that gives the orders, but the moment Emma says something it’s “As you wish” and he dashes off to get them out of there, lol. Love it!
I fully expect Hook to be in good with the Charmings and happy to help out in whatever way he can. Not sure if they have need of a navy really, but the Charmings’ castle is surrounded by water so at least there’s lots of parking spaces for the Jolly Roger! 😉 Plus I expect him to become a part of their council group someday when they get back to FTL and be a part of fixing things. He’s becoming more and more trusted and close to them so I wouldn’t see why not.
BTS shots from 3×10 make me so happy! He’s up talking to the Charmings and they look like they might be sticking up for him while Grumpy is kinda side-eyeing him which is totally reminiscent of him being skeptical of Charming – aka: good sign. Win over Charming? Check. Win over Grumpy? Working on. Also it looks like we might get a Grumpy/Emma hug! He’s so protective of and close to Snow and we haven’t gotten to see him a whole lot with Emma so I hope that’s the case! He had a huge smile on his face and his arms were open wide so I hope it’s a Grumpy/Emma hug. He’s practically her godfather if you think about it! I’m still curious about who the group is looking at though. Seems like almost everyone is off the ship and standing on shore already but the group is out there smiling and looking in the same direction. I wonder what’s happening!
Can’t wait til Sunday! I need a new episode to analyze!
