I agree with Hookian that it is not necessary for them to be doing “Tangled”–versus a more classic folk-tale Rapzunel spun in a new direction.
With the casting of what we assume is Rapunzel’s father, I would say they are going more traditional. In Tangled, her father was a king and sort of unimportant to the overall story, but in the traditional story, her father plays a much larger role: selling her to the witch.
