Or the BF wanted Malcolm to become Peter Pan and this would lead up to Rumple becoming the dark one and making the curse that brought them to Storybrooke.

Which goes back to the theory many of us have that the BF knows magic is dying and is trying to save it in order to save herself. So she this elaborate scheme to get Malcolm to NL in order to make Rumple alone which leads to him being the Dark One and so forth and so on.
