Rumple never said that. Rumple’s direct quote is “You can have a chance at happiness, and that happiness is possible just not with me”. Possible does not mean a guarantee, same as saying it’s not a guarantee he would get a happy ending.

But why have him even mention that it was a possibility if they were already planning to kill Neal? They could have written anything for Rumple’s goodbye to Neal, but those are the words they chose – hope for happiness in the future. The point I made still stands, I never said that Rumple offered a guarantee, I said that they had him put that sentiment out there, and if they did that right before they kill Neal, that’s a cruel misdirect, and it’s something that I don’t expect they’d do to a character that is 100% of their own invention. They don’t have many of those on this show. Neal, Emma and Henry are Adam and Eddy’s babies, and I just can’t imagine them putting one of those characters in the position where they’re basically saying to them, “Well your life sucked in pretty much every way, and then you were finally given hope that you could get your happy ending after all, but PSYCH, YOU’RE DEAD INSTEAD, SUCK IT.” And that’s what it would feel like if they killed Neal off after what they had Rumple say to him.
