Maybe that’s all part of cheering a child up. I mean isn’t that what family will do? Try to cheer up the child anyway they know how. Including even doing something as ludicrous as teaching the kid how to drive.

Only a day or so after his father died? No. You give a kid the chance to grieve. He didn’t have a chance to grieve the last time he thought his father died, so if it happened for real, they’d allow him to properly work through it instead of saying, “Here kid, cheer up, wanna driving lesson?” the next day. Both Snow and Charming know what it feels like to have their parents die, so I can’t believe that they’d be trying to force LOLz out of Henry that soon after is father had died.
