That would make a lot of sense. So we see her pop out of the water as a mermaid and then she becomes human as she swims toward land.

Maybe Ariel has since acquired a special ability to transform, either through a deal with the sea witch or a gift from her papa. Ariel’s dilemma might have been in a flashback, but maybe she has since overcome the limitations of wanting to be part of the human world. Maybe she can now have the best of both worlds (like in “The Little Mermaid II: Return to the Sea.”
