I started watching from the pilot on. My mom kept mentioning it to me for months leading up to the premiere…the way she described it I thought it would be a mini series retelling of the Snow White tale-I was so wrong. I watched because I love fairytales. I have warm memories of those stories from childhood. And although I could pick out things I didn’t like about individual episodes, I felt Once really did most of the characters from those stories justice.   I remember certain elements seemed cheesy-the CGI in the first epi- the way Regina glided across the floor at Snow’s wedding like she was on a treadmill, and some of the costume choices, specifically the Blue Fairy, her skirt was so bizarre (it has since grown on me). But I had to keep watching after I saw the pages in Henry’s book turning over (in the car crash scene) to reveal numerous other stories and worlds I knew would be touched on. I loved the air of mystery in season one and all of the easter eggs and trinkets in gold’s shop that figured into the story. It was like an adult version of Blue’s Clues! I continue to watch and still enjoy the story but miss many of those elements from season one. That first season was pure magic. I feel the same way now about it that I do about the fairytales themselves.
